Amanda Sanchez

Artistic passions are attainable but scarcely maintainable. Amanda Sanchez can proudly say that she is one of the few who believes in her artistic abilities. For the past eighteen years, she has proudly pursued the art of dance. Amanda trained in ballet, for several years, until she later began taking classes in other styles such as: lyrical, contemporary, jazz, flamenco and ballroom dance. Her competitive years commenced at the age of seven and did so until she turned eighteen years old. Amanda received several recognitions over her dancing career but is especially proud of her achievement as a YoungArts Finalist, for modern dance, in 2011. Being a performer was appealing but not entirely fulfilling. She knew that she was creatively inclined and therefore chased her desires of becoming a choreographer. At the age of thirteen, she was given the opportunity of teaching classes, in her preferred styles of ballet and lyrical, at Patricia Penenori Dance Center in Miami, FL. She taught weekly classes for the following five years and choreographed performance and competitive routines. Aside from her duties at the studio, she also began to expand her choreographic and teaching abilities at the University of California Los Angeles. Here she collaborated with several talented artists and individually progressed as an artist and educator. Since her freshman year, as a dance major in the Department of World Arts and Cultures major, Amanda has been a dancer and choreographer in the annual undergraduate showcase, WACSmash’D. Due to her continuous commitment to the program, she produced the 2015 showcase. In the future she plans to continue her love for dance by opening her own dance company, where she will apply the artistic knowledge she has gained during her lifetime.
